FAQ

Q: What is the purpose of this? Isn't reform more realistic?

A: The purpose of the Guild is to protect autistic people from discrimination and, furthermore, help them thrive. We believe the best way to do this is by creating autistic-oriented environments. In our current neurotypical-oriented societies, Autists face heavy discrimination. Unfortunately, reform is unlikely. This is due to the double empathy problem. Science shows that Neurotypicals and Autists misunderstand each other. For the Neurotypical, this will result in just an off-putting encounter, however, Autists, who make up a small minority of the population, will find all encounters off-putting. This results in a feeling of alienation and is partly responsible for the 7x higher suicide rate that autistics suffer.

Q: Isn't this reverse bigotry or akin to an ethnostate?

A: Neurostates are not synonymous with ethnostates. For one, skin color is not the same as neurotype. Nor is skin color synonymous with culture. Skin color has little bearing on how a person thinks. Neurotype, on the other hand, is a series of traits that all autists have a combination of. Two: autistic people are a global minority facing global oppression. There is no safe place currently in existence for autistic people. There is no place designed to handle our unique needs and sensitivities. Finally, neurotypicals are not banned from the neurostate. The Autistic Guild aims to create inclusive environments for autistic people to thrive, however that does not preclude neurotypicals from joining.

Q: Isn't all land on earth occupied? How will you find land?

A: The Autistic Guild has embraced a federative model. We will not displace anyone, nor try to usurp sovereignty over any territory. We plan to settle in unoccupied areas around the world, following the laws and customs of the places we build. The "settlers" will be legal residents of the territories we build in. The Autistic Guild is a charitable organization, not a colonizing force.

Q: How can I get involved?
